2025 Hillman Prize Nominations
The Call for Entries for the 2025 Hillman Prizes is now open.
The deadline for entry is January 30, 2025 at 11:59pm.
Contest Instructions:
Please click the box at the bottom of this page to enter. You will see category-specific instructions as well as a textbox to enter your cover letter. You may upload files, provide links and/or mail copies to our office but you must fill out the form or we will not have a record of your entry.
2025 Categories are as follows:
- Book (nonfiction)
- Newspaper Journalism (story, series or multimedia; print or online)
- Magazine Journalism (longform; print or online)
- Broadcast Journalism (television, radio or podcast; at least 20 minutes in total package length)
- Opinion & Analysis Journalism (commentary and analysis in any medium)
If you write for a digital only-outlet, use your best judgement as to whether it fits better in the Newspaper or Magazine category. Please do NOT enter the same work twice in two different categories. Don’t worry, if we think your work fits better in a different category we will reassign it internally.
The foundation will continue the SEIU Award for Reporting on Racial and Economic Justice. All Hillman Prize entries will be automatically considered for this award as well.
The contest is open to journalists globally, although work must have been widely accessible to a U.S. audience. Stories may be on any topic but we prioritize entries with U.S impact. You may nominate your own work or someone else’s. You may apply on your own, or be entered by your outlet/organization. There is no limit to the number of entries one outlet may make. There is no fee to enter.
Winners will be announced in April 2025. Hillman Prize winners will be awarded a $5,000 honorarium and a certificate at our annual ceremony to be held in New York City on Tuesday May 6, 2025.
